F.A.Q.
If these don't answer all your questions, then please let us know and we will consider adding your question to the list.
Who can become a member of the local chapter?
The only criteria for local membership is that you must be an active (not expired) member of National HOG. You can be a full, associate or life member of National. As long as you keep your National membership valid, you are eligible.
How do I sign up?
There are three ways to become a member. You will need your National Hog number and expiration date and a check or cash for the annual dues.
1. Go to the Harley Shop in McAllen. They can sign you up.
2. Mail it to: P.O. BOX 4464, McAllen, TX 78502
3. Email the chapter secretary and she will email you the form.
Can I sign up my passenger?
Absolutely! Any member of National HOG is welcome! If your passenger, kid, significant other or spouse is registered with National, then you bet.
Can I be a member of more than one local chapter?
Yes. Our chapter does not mind if you are a member of any other chapter or any other motorcycle club.
I just signed up with National HOG and don't have my HOG # yet. What should I do?
You can go ahead and register with us. The chapter secretary will start the paper work, and when your National HOG number is registered, you'll be all set. Put "Natl. # pending" on the form. We check your name against the National roster every couple of weeks. When they have processed it, you'll be a local member. If you get it in the mail before you get your first newsletter, then let the secretary know.
I bought a bike from the dealership in McAllen and they signed me up. Is there anything else I need to do?
No, that's it. We receive the forms from the shop about once a week. We'll take it from there.
Why am I not getting a newsletter?
The number one reason that people don't get a newsletter it that their membership has expired. You local membership expires every December 31st. If you have not paid your dues, then you won't get a newsletter. In addition, if your National HOG membership expired and you didn't renew it, then you won't receive a newsletter. You can email the chapter secretary to find out exactly why you stopped getting a newsletter.
How much does it cost and what do I get for my membership fee?
This year's dues are $15 bucks. That's all. For your due you will get to eat for FREE at the monthly general membership meeting, receive a newsletter, and be offered special incentives from time to time throughout the year. Not a bad deal, huh?
When does my local membership expire?
December 31st. Everyone must renew before the end of the year, regardless of when your National HOG membership expires.
How can I get more involved in the local chapter?
That's easy….Show Up!....Volunteer! Throughout the year we sponsor rides and events that need volunteers. Nearly every meeting we are asking for help. Just step up to the plate and dive right in! That's how we all got started. Time and time again we hear people saying that getting more involved in this chapter has made a real difference in their lives. This is a really great bunch of people. Come to a meeting or event and don't be shy…introduce yourself! Or if you are a little shy, email a staff member and we'll show you around.
How does someone become a staff member?
It's easy! The first step is to express your interest to any current or past staff member. Find out about the different positions and decide what you want to do. In October of every year ask for nominations and expressions of interest. Elections are held every November for the primary positions; Assistant Director, Treasurer and Secretary. All other positions are appointed by committee. So all you have to do is let us know that you are interested.
What's the deal with the meal sponsors?
One of the great things about our General Membership meetings is the FREE FOOD! Ever wonder where those meal sponsors come from? No, they're not deep pocketed secrete admirers. They are members just like you! Actually it's not that expensive. More importantly, most members ask another member to join them. I've seen meal sponsors made up of 5 or 6 member families. Guess what? It's a heck of a lot cheaper this year! Now, the chapter's portion of the 50/50 drawing goes toward the meal sponsor's portion of the cost of the meal! My goodness, could you have a better deal?!? So are you ready to buy dinner? All you have to do is notify a primary officer of your intentions. Find other members to agree to split the cost, decide what you want, place the order, eat the food, pay for the food and then collect your share of the meal fees and 50/50. Simple, huh?
